Enghouse Systems Limited Announces a $1.3 Million GeoNet™ Software Sale to Sempra Energy

Markham, Canada (April 3, 2000) - Enghouse Systems Limited [TSE: ESL] is pleased to announce a contractual agreement with Sempra Energy for the supply of GeoNet™ licenses for its subsidiary, San Diego Gas & Electric ("SDG&E"). Andrew Nellestyn, Interim President of Enghouse Systems Limited stated, "The current transaction updates the original contract between Enghouse and SDG&E, which confirms their commitment to Enghouse's industry leading GeoNet™ technology. This represents CDN $1.3 million in revenue over fiscal 2000."

Since 1994, SDG&E has pioneered the use of GeoNet™ software, by building a comprehensive electrical application to manage its outside plant assets. With the in-house creation of a vegetation management application, SDG&E has been able to better identify tree-trimming requirements and other issues related to over-head line maintenance of electrical service networks.

As a result of SDG&E's innovation using Enghouse's GeoNet™ core engine, several hundred mobile users have instant access to valuable network information. With up-to-date maps generated on-line in the system, root problems can be readily located, before service levels are greatly effected.

Dan Wright, Enghouse's Director of Sales for the Western USA noted, "SDG&E has fully deployed hundreds of seats of GeoNet™ products in their Mapping /GIS department as well as in the field with mobile data laptops. I believe SDG&E's tremendous success with GeoNet™ serves as strong testimony to the value of managing critical utility assets using Enghouse's GIS products. SDG&E's ability to respond quickly to customer needs in a very large geographic area that encompasses 4,100 square miles covering two major California counties and 25 cities is strongly enhanced using GeoNet™ technology."

Mr.Nellestyn further stated: "Sempra Energy's belief in Enghouse's GeoNet™ core engine is unmistakable as evidenced by their renewed investment in our enterprise-wide spatial asset management solutions. Sempra's vote of confidence in our technology tells industry-watchers that Enghouse's GeoNet™ core product continues to add value, offer flexibility, and improve functionality in designing spatial asset management solutions that add business value in today's deregulated utility market. We believe that Sempra's commitment to our solutions is more than a commitment to our technology. It is recognition of our ability to deliver economic value to the customer."

GeoNet™ allows users to manage complex networked facilities through the integration of spatial technology with leading commercial relational database management systems (RDBMS), a graphical user interface, and an open architecture. This software platform provides a strong base on which to build a custom, company-specific application, or for an Enghouse industry-specific application.

SDG&E is a public utility that provides service to 3 million consumers through 1.2 million electric meters and 720,000 natural gas meters in San Diego and southern Orange counties. SDG&E is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), a Fortune 500 energy services holding company based in San Diego, with 12,000 employees, revenues of $5.5 billion and more than 8.5 million customers in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico and South America.
